Flowers My Love

If there is one thing I love doing, it is rearranging items in my home. To the point where this drives my husband a bit nutty at times, but I know he secretly appreciates it.

The above mantle in our guest bedroom/ home office, has been rearranged countless times since we moved in about a year ago.

I change things depending on the space every season or even more often. Once I really love the direction of something, I may just make minor seasonal changes. Mantles, shelves and dressers are all examples of areas in your living space that can be altered more frequently. With adding new additions such as vases, flowers, pictures, found objects and other little pieces, you can convert a space over night. This is an affordable way to keep things always feeling current.

Color inspiration is anywhere and everywhere. The muted color palette of these Soho buildings inspired me to put together my mantle.

There are 4 things to be mindful of when curating a space.

  1. Color

  2. Shape

  3. Scale

  4. Space

For color, making a story and having fun with it is key! I used a muted color palette with anchoring colors of millennial pink, copper & slate. There are thousands if not millions of color schemes you can go with. The good news is you just have to choose one.

For shape & scale, I make sure to have variances within these to make an interesting statement.

Lastly, I use space as a key element when arranging. This keeps it clutter free & allows my husband and I to feel relaxed in our own home.

I look at things I already own to see if I can give it new life.

We are so very lucky to have the floral paintings that Michael’s great grandma painted. His Dad found them in a box in the basement unframed, torn, etc. I fell in love with the colors and her hand. They were framed in a light grey mat with matching copper frames to allow the beautiful depth of the watercolors to be highlighted.

I added my Alexander McQueen shoe that I got from the epic Met exhibit that was done years ago. It is one of my favorite tiny pieces I own. Putting a glass cloche enhances the way it is displayed.

In a home, I always gravitate to making sure it feels lived in. In this case, I left my favorite pair of Loeffler Randall leopard booties in the mix.
